“Richmond Roofing Group transformed our old roof into a stunning new feature of our home. Professional, tidy and on time.”
Sarah J. · Richmond homeownerWhat’s an Insurance-Backed Guarantee?
An Insurance-Backed Guarantee (IBG) is a guarantee provided by the contractor, but backed by an insurer — meaning that if we ever cease trading, your guarantee can still be honoured under the policy terms. In short: peace of mind that your roofing investment remains protected beyond our own workmanship promise alone.
Many contractors offer a written guarantee. Only with an IBG are you safeguarded if the original contractor is no longer able to honour that guarantee — for example following the contractor ceasing to trade. Roofs sometimes need attention years after installation; an IBG is designed for that longer horizon.
On qualifying new roof installation projects, Richmond Roofing Group can arrange a 10-year insurance-backed roofing guarantee through Peacock Insurance. Peacock Insurance Services Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Key benefits for Richmond & West London clients
- Valid even if we cease trading — thanks to the insurance backing, if Richmond Roofing Group were ever unable to trade, eligible claims may still be pursued via the insurer subject to policy terms.
- Workmanship and materials — the underlying contractor guarantee covers defects arising from workmanship and materials supplied for the insured works, as stated on your written guarantee and policy schedule.
- Backed via an FCA-regulated broker — we partner with Peacock Insurance Services Limited (Firm Reference Number 603863), authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
- Documented handover — valuable for homeowners, landlords, managing agents, lenders and future buyers who ask for proof of an insurance-backed roofing guarantee.
- No extra fee to you for registration — on qualifying installations we handle the registration paperwork as part of the project; ask us to confirm eligibility at quotation stage.

How Peacock Insurance describes an IBG
According to Peacock Insurance, an Insurance Backed Guarantee provides an additional layer of protection behind a contractor’s own written guarantee. When a contractor completes qualifying work, they may issue a guarantee for a stated period. The IBG is a separate insurance policy designed to sit behind that original guarantee.
Depending on the policy terms and the circumstances of a claim, the IBG can provide protection where the original contractor is no longer able to honour its guarantee. Cover is always subject to insurer acceptance, policy terms, conditions, exclusions and the qualifying contractor guarantee.
Peacock notes that IBGs may be requested by homeowners, developers, lenders, structural warranty providers, local authorities or other parties — and that contractors may also offer them voluntarily for extra client reassurance.
Terms that apply to your Peacock-backed cover
These points summarise how Peacock Insurance–arranged IBGs typically work for roofing clients. Your individual policy schedule and wording are the definitive contract of insurance.
- Underlying written guarantee — the IBG responds in connection with defects (or other covered items) that are specifically stated as covered by the written guarantee we issue for the insured works. Keep your guarantee certificate with your property file.
- Cease-trading trigger — a core purpose of an IBG is to protect you if the contractor has ceased trading and cannot rectify a covered defect under that written guarantee. Exact definitions of “ceased trading” and claim conditions are set by the insurer’s policy wording.
- Workmanship & materials (not storm damage) — the contractor guarantee / IBG route addresses defects in workmanship and materials. Storm, weather and accidental damage are usually matters for buildings / home insurance — we can advise, but they are separate.
- Policy limits — the maximum payable is typically linked to the contract value stated on the policy schedule. Excesses, exclusions and conditions in the schedule always apply.
- Building Regulations elements — some IBG wordings may include limited cover for making good certain Building Regulations breaches where the contractor has ceased trading and self-certified eligible roof refurbishment works. Availability depends on the specific policy; we will confirm what was arranged for your job.
- Registration & completion — cover is arranged for qualifying completed works. We process registration after eligible installations so you leave with recognised paperwork.
- Insurer acceptance — not every roof or package automatically qualifies. Project value, covering type, contractor criteria and underwriting rules determine whether Peacock can place cover. We confirm eligibility before you rely on an IBG in your decision.
- How to claim — contact us or the insurer with your guarantee / policy certificate number and evidence of the issue. We will guide you through the process where we remain trading; if we have ceased trading, follow the insurer’s claim instructions on your certificate.

What happens if Richmond Roofing Group stops trading?
Because the guarantee is insurance-backed, eligible claims may remain active via the insurer even if our company ceases to trade — subject to the policy wording, schedule and claim conditions on your certificate.
Does this cover storm damage?
No — the IBG / contractor guarantee route covers workmanship and materials defects as defined in your documents. Storm damage is usually a buildings insurance matter.
Are there extra costs to register the guarantee?
There is no additional registration fee charged to you on qualifying installations we put through Peacock — registration is handled as part of the installation package we quote.
Which jobs qualify?
